The North Harris College Counseling Center offers programs and services to help students manage academic
and personal demands more effectively.

Change, stress and self-development are all a part of college life. The NHC Counseling Center offers free confidential counseling services by appointment to help students overcome problems while gaining self-understanding and direction. Often, general academic questions can be answered in walk-in advising.

Walk-In Advising

Advisors in the Counseling Center are well-trained professionals who have earned at least bachelor's degrees. They can answer many questions about courses, transfer issues, scheduling classes and other topics. Look here for help in deciding whether you need an appointment or walk-in services. Services provided by the NHC counselors include:

• Career Counseling: To assist in exploring possible vocational direction while learning more about yourself and your place in the workforce.

• Educational Counseling: To help understand the college environment and discover ways to increase academic success.

• Personal Counseling: To help examine concerns which interfere with your personal development and growth or relationships with others.

• Referral: To provide resource information and referral to outside agencies for ongoing assistance with personal and emotional concerns.

Counselors are master's level professionals who are trained to:

• Help students understand themselves, their abilities and potential.

• Help students with transitions from one stage in life to another.

• Help students deal with personal crises.

• Help students set goals, overcome barriers, access resources and plan fulfilling, productive lives.
