Professional Office Technology
The Professional Office Technology program prepares graduates in office management and procedures necessary to succeed in the fast-paced business world. You will learn time management, human resources, filing procedures, and oral and written business communications.
Computer skills include not only Word Processing and spreadsheets, but also database, presentation, and telecommunication applications. A wide variety of entry-level job opportunities are available to graduates, including office support technicians, human resource assistants, office coordinators, administrative and executive assistants.
This technical degree/certificate area prepares you to work in an office environment providing varying levels of support, depending on the certificate of degree earned. Office support and supervision is needed in all businesses and industries, and employment in this occupation is expected to grow about as fast as average through 2012. All students will train with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Depending upon which specialization you choose, you will learn with Microsoft Project, MediSoft scheduling software, coding software, etc. You will improve your verbal and written communication skills or business math, accounting, and office procedures, along with improving problem solving and information gathering skills. A co-op or internship course is available in one of the last semesters of your certificate or degree.
When it comes down to it, this field is a lot about people. If you enjoy helping others, have patience, and find satisfaction in gathering information and solving problems, you will enjoy these degrees and certificates and the jobs they enable you to obtain.
