NHC gets real!
Former Real World cast members conduct a “Real World” forum on campus Sept. 24
 
This fall, MTV’s Real World cast members Puck of San Francisco and Julie of New Orleans will be on the North Harris College campus Tuesday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college’s Performing Arts Theater. All area college students are welcome to attend.
 
According to Leslie Copeland, NHC’s new coordinator of student activities, this is just the first of four visits scheduled for stars of MTV’s Real World.
 
“Before now, these types of presentations were only offered at the university level. The scheduled MTV stars are part of the Keep It Real Campus Tour. The purpose of the event is to provide nationally recognized speakers who can connect with our students. The topics of discussion will help students prepare for the spiritual, emotional and physical challenges facing them everyday. Each Real World Forum held on campus will cover a different topic of information which is needed by today’s college student in order to help them achieve success in every facet of life,” says Copeland.
 
The Sept. 24 event will showcase two extreme MTV personalities.

Puck and Julie offer opposite information on just about every topic combining innocence and morals with chaos and controversy.
 
Puck is known for being out-spoken, surviving a harsh life and for making outrageous remarks. David “Puck” Rainey is, in his own words, “the shining pillar of freedom.” His philosophy in life is to have as much fun as he possibly can. Puck is charitable. He has recently donated $10,000 to CHAMPS, a charity that raises money for children infected or affected by the AIDS virus. In addition to his many appearances on MTV, he has also appeared on Weakest Link, Rikki Lake, Too Pure and Jon Stewart.
 
Julie, who was brought up to always obey the rules is capitalizing on her newly found stardom. She captivates college audiences everywhere with her exuberance, energy, and positive messages. Her merits include: being a national spokesperson for abstinence, member of the “truth” campaign, and speaker against drug and alcohol abuse.
 
“Our next MTV event will be Nov. 13 when Coral and Syrus-two more Real World players-will share further real life experiences and discuss embracing diversity. At the end of the semester, NHC students will get to vote for which cast members they would like to have visit the campus in spring 2003,” says Copeland.
