NHC Writing Software On-Line for Students
To use these programs, go to the NHC Learning Center computer lab. Click on the Start button, then Programs, then English, then Writing, then the program you want to open.

NHC Writing Tutorials
Writing tutorials created by NHC instructors: Both writing and editing topics are covered, including the Practice Grammar Proficiency Exam and selected skill review tutorials.

No registration is required. Table of contents and overview of tutorials are available on-line. You can print answers from most tutorials. Your work is not saved.

Passkey (formerly CSR)
Skill tutorials in reading, writing, math and science

Registration is required. Your teacher will set up a program of tutorials for your class. You can then register into your own class and begin your assignment. Your performance and time on-line is tracked. (If you want to practice skills on your own, see Tara Edwards in the Writing Center for logon instructions and assignments.)

*Teachers must submit class logon requests and set up programs in advance through Writing Center
Coordinator Tara Edwards, x5483, or Technical Manager Greg Waldrop, x7129.

Holt Writing: Grammar Tools

Grammar review software: 10 topics are reviewed--Run-Ons, Fragments, Subject-Verb Agreement, Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement, Pronoun Case, Modifiers, Pronoun Reference, Verb Tense, Commas, and Parallel Structure. This software supports practice, explains errors, and allows you to print scores. The software does not save your work once you log out.

No registration is required. You logon to Grammar Tools and practice at your own pace.

DIWE (Daedalus Integrated Writing Environment)

On-line classroom writing system: The system includes a simple word processor, class listserv, mail, invention prompts, revision prompts and Bibliocite citation formatting. Registration is required. Either your teacher will submit your class section number so you can register into your own class or you can register to work in DIWE on your own as a Walk-In.

Students who want to work in Bibliocite on their own should get the tipsheet and follow directions.

*Teachers must submit class section numbers for DIWE and reserve computer classrooms in advance through Learning Center Secretary, Peggy Morris, x5531.

*Teacher manuals and handouts are available on the Teachers' Resource Shelf in the NHC Writing Center. Teachers should request class section logons for Passkey and DIWE a week before students will begin using these programs. For more information, contact Tara Edwards, Writing Center Coordinator, (281) 618-5483.
