INTRODUCTION

The North Harris Montgomery Community College District offers a multiple entry/exit program of study in Associate Degree Nursing. The basic track and the LVN to RN Transition track lead to an Associate Degree in Nursing and eligibility to take the R.N. State Licensure Examination. The Professional Nursing Program and LVN to RN Transition programs are accredited by the Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) for the State of Texas. The Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (BVNE) is the accrediting board for the LVN exit track. The National League for Nursing accredits both the RN and LVN tracks for Nursing.

Basic Track: Beginning nursing students are admitted in August of each year to pursue four sequential semesters of nursing courses. Nursing courses are offered at two sites, Tomball College and North Harris College. About 140 students enroll in the class, 40 at Tomball and 100 at North Harris College. Due to BNE mandated teacher/student ratios, students may have to enroll in a nursing course at a campus other than the one to which they originally applied. This move between campuses could occur at the beginning of any semester in the nursing program.

Several exit options are available within the Professional Nursing Program track.

• Option 1 - take the certification exam to become a CNA or CMA after Fall semester.
• Option 2 - take the LVN licensure exam after completing vocational nursing electives in the summer.

Students may choose to exit at these points and work, or continue in the Professional Nursing Program. Students who exit will have two years to resume the Professional Nursing Program.

Alternate entry options are available for Certified Nursing Assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, Certified Medical Assistants, Tech Prep students, and graduates of a high school health occupations program. These students receive articulated credit for RNSG 1119, and enter directly into Nursing I.

LVN to RN Transition Track is available only for Licensed Vocational Nurses, who then complete the program in two and one-half semesters.

Paramedic to RN Transition Track is available only for Licensed Paramedics, who then complete the program in two and one-half semesters.

RN to BSN Program is an additional option available to Professional Nursing Program graduates who seek to complete their baccalaureate degree in nursing. This program is offered at the University Center through an articulation agreement with Prairie View A & M University, College of Nursing.
