In an effort to support faculty initiatives (Robert Miller ), an informal and dedicated NHC group integrated from people fromCollege Relations, Information Technology, Counseling and Learning Access Center, is looking into the possibilites of implementing support for this kind of technology.

To help you understand what podcasting is:
This is a summary of information on Podcasting directly related to NHC:

Definition:
“Podcasting” is a portmanteau that combines the words “broadcasting” and “iPod.” The term can be misleading since neither podcasting nor listening to podcasts requires an iPod or any portable player, and no broadcasting is involved.
More on the topic at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast

Basically; podcasting is the ability to use the web to automatically distribute information to an audience without the need of the audience to visit a website or manually download files.
Think of it as a subscription of audio and video that is updated automatically when new material is posted.

Visit North Harris College Learning Access Center from 8 am to 4:30 pm.

There are 5 basic steps to Podcasting:
1. Recording the content
2. Uploading files to a server
3. Create/Update RSS files
*requires knowledge of RSS files or helper programs
4. Provide students (target audience) with podcast location
5. Student (target audience) subscribes/listens to the files

To experience Podcasting from the audience point of view:
Download iTunes at: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

We feel that Podcasting can be used as a tool for education. Use the forum to express your opinions and post questions and comments on the topic.
